Cooperative Transfer Programs

The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment welcomes all students to transfer up to 60 credit hours (minimum of 12 credits) that may be applied towards their major at Auburn University. Within Alabama, the College has also partnered with institutions such as Southern Union State Community College, University of West Alabama, and others to offer cooperative transfer programs for their students.

Path to the Plains, Southern Union State Community College Pathway Program

Path to the Plains (P2P) is a concurrent enrollment program offered by Auburn University and partner community college institutions designed for students who want to transfer to Auburn to finish their bachelor’s degrees once they have completed their associate’s degrees. P2P offers an affordable and accessible path for Alabama residents.

Students may work toward a Bachelor of Science in the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment in majors such as Forestry, Geospatial and Environmental Informatics, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Biomaterials and Packaging, and Wildlife Ecology and Management.

Cooperative B.S. and M.N.R. Degree Program with University of West Alabama

Students at The University of West Alabama will be able to earn a Master’s degree in Natural Resources (MNR) that will qualify them to become either Professional Foresters or Certified Wildlife Biologists. A cooperative program between the undergraduate program in Environmental Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of West Alabama and the graduate program in Natural Resources in the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment at Auburn University.  Over a five-year period, students from UWA who enter this cooperative degree program will earn a B.S. degree in Environmental Sciences from The University of West Alabama and an M.N.R. degree in Natural Resources from Auburn University.  The Cooperative Degree Program is conducted as outlined below.

1.) Students will attend The University of West Alabama (UWA) for three years, completing the curriculum for the 3+2 forestry program or the 3+2 wildlife program (Link to Curricula) Students will be required to maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA at UWA.

2.) Students transfer to Auburn University after completion of coursework at UWA.  The Professional Forester option begins with summer practicum followed by a full year of coursework at Auburn and includes 34 hours of undergraduate coursework in agronomy and forestry (Link to Curricula).  The Certified Wildlife Biologist option begins with the fall semester and includes an additional 29 hours of coursework in wildlife, ecology, and biology (see attached curriculum).  Students must obtain a C or better on all listed forestry (FORY, FOEN, FOPR) and wildlife courses (WILD) and a 3.00 GPA overall.

3.) Upon satisfactory completion of the senior year at Auburn, students will receive a B.S. in Environmental Sciences from UWA.

4.) Students will complete a non-thesis project in cooperation with their major professor and graduate committee. Students will be required to complete a final oral exam conducted by their graduate committee covering their entire program.

5.) Upon completion of all degree requirements, the student will receive an M.N.R. in Natural Resources from Auburn University.

2+2 STEM Scholars Natural Resources Management Partnership w Wallace CC-Dothan

The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment at Auburn University is honored to be part of a new and innovative transfer opportunity for Wallace Community College students. This collaborative STEM Scholars 2+2 partnership for degree completion in Natural Resources Management will provide students with “job ready” critical thinking skills and training to work in variety of settings in conservation, the outdoors, watersheds, natural resources policy, environmental interpretation and sustainability.  Most importantly, students will prepare for a career focused on defining ecological problems and identifying complex environmental solutions now and for future generations.

Students will complete the first two years of coursework at Wallace Community College, in their home area of Dothan, Alabama, to earn an Associate’s Degree in Science and experience the convenience and affordability of an excellent education at their community college. Students will then transfer to Auburn University and complete their remaining classes in two years as a graduate of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment.

Other benefits – an Auburn University advisor will visit Wallace Community College every semester to meet with students, assist with class selection, provide scholarship information, explain the admissions application and help make a smooth transition to Auburn University when they are ready to transfer. The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment will also pay for their Transfer Student Admissions Application.
