2021 FEWL Academy

The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences proudly introduces the 2021 Forest, Environment and Wildlife Leadership (FEWL) Academy:

Alex Booker

Alex Booker is a junior in Forestry at Auburn. He is from HackneyvilleAlabama, and enjoys spending time on Lake Martin, watching Auburn football, and traveling. Booker chose to pursue forestry after discovering a love for the industry while working for Hancock Forest Management. After completing two years at Southern Union State Community College, Booker began the Forestry program at Auburn University in 2020. He believes that the FEWL Academy will provide him with personal and professional leadership skills he can utilize in his career and community. 

Emma Breda

Emma Breda is a junior in Wildlife Ecology and Management at Auburn. Breda is interested in furthering her education by attending graduate school to receive her master’s degree and potentially a doctorate. She is from Hooksett, New Hampshire, and transferred to Auburn University in 2019 to expand her knowledge and gain more research experience. Breda is excited to join the FEWL Academy to enhance her leadership skills and network with government officials involved in policy. Breda is currently a student employee at the Bee Lab and has participated in previous research studies in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. She hopes that with the knowledge and experiences gained during her undergraduate years, she will participate in important research discoveries and policymaking in the wildlife field. 

Ashlyn Cowgill

Ashlyn Cowgill is a sophomore majoring in Wildlife Sciences with a Pre-Veterinary Medicine Concentration and a minor in Watershed Sciences. She is from Miami, Florida, and enjoys hiking, sailing, and exploring nature. Cowgill applied to the FEWL Academy to improve her leadership skills in pursuit of a future career in conservation and climate change research. Through this experience, she hopes to learn more about the diverse careers related to forestry, wildlife, and the environment, as well as develop problemsolving and decision-making skills. Cowgill is excited to hear from policymakers, professors, and peers to shape her understanding of how change is made. She believes this unique opportunity will carry into future leadership roles at Auburn and beyond. 

Joseph Davis

Joseph Davis is a junior in Geospatial and Environmental Informatics at Auburn. He is from Athens, Alabama, and enjoys being outdoors, watching and playing sports, and spending time with friends and family. Davis is currently a student ambassador for the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences at Auburn. He is grateful for the unique opportunity to be a member of the FEWL Academy and continue developing his leadership skills through interactions with industry professionals. Davis is excited to form new relationships with peers, make new professional connections, and prepare for a leadership position in his future workplace. 

Allie Foster

Allie Foster is a junior in Wildlife Ecology and Management at Auburn. She is from Tampa, Florida, and enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. Foster hopes to pursue a career in natural resource policy and an advocate for conservation of wildlife. Foster applied to the FEWL Academy in hopes of strengthening leadership and interpersonal communication skills needed in her future career. She is excited about the opportunities the FEWL Academy provides to meet with policymakers and understand how leadership skills can benefit management decisions and be applied in both a professional and personal settingShe hopes to gain lasting connections with leaders in her field, as well as with other students in the FEWL Academy. 

Bethany Foust

Bethany Foust is a junior in Geospatial and Environmental Informatics at Auburn. She is from Nashville, Tennessee, and enjoys being outdoors, hiking, and sustainability.  She is particularly interested in learning about climate change, urban city planning, and cartography, as she is completing a minor in Sustainability Studies. Foust is also the Rental Shop Manager of Auburn Outdoors and Vice President of the Auburn chapter of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Foust applied for the FEWL Academy to interact with experts in various fields and understand what it means to be a young, motivated leader in the geospatial community. Foust is looking forward to learning about different occupations and forming lasting connections with professionals and fellow students in the FEWL Academy. 

 

Madison McCown

Madison McCown is a junior in Wildlife Ecology and Management from Cordelia, California. She plans to go into the workforce after graduation to gain knowledge of different career options before hopefully returning to get a master’s or Ph.D. McCown is interested in fulfilling a career in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, a field she is actively learning about while currently volunteering at the Southeastern Raptor Center. In her free time, McCown enjoys hiking, cooking, exercising, making art, and playing with her cat, Luna. McCown applied for the FEWL Academy to learn leadership and professional skills that will help her better collaborate and communicate with others in the workplace and community. In addition, she hopes to use the knowledge and skills gained in the FEWL Academy to help her be more successful in the wildlife sciences field. 

Quinn Morrison

Quinn Morrison is a senior in Sustainable Biomaterials and Packaging. He is from Gulf Breeze, Florida, and enjoys boating, hiking and fishing. Morrison was originally studying environmental science at Pensacola State College when he decided to transfer to Auburn University to pursue a major that supports his interest in the future of the packaging industry. Morrison has held various leadership positions and is excited to expand upon his skills through networking with professionals and policymakers with the help of the FEWL Academy. With the experience gained from the academy, he plans to help make necessary changes in the packaging industry.  

Brock Story

Brock Story is a junior in Forestry at Auburn. He is from Cullman, Alabama, and enjoys outdoorbased hobbies such as hiking and mountain biking. Story went into the forestry program because it aligned with his outdoor interests and met his goal of finding a career that allows him to work outside. Upon graduation, he hopes to become a successful forest manager and to have the necessary skills to correctly grow and manage quality timber. Story joined the FEWL Academy in the hopes of learning about important team management skills and how to address common challenges within the forestry industry. 

James Treadwell

James Treadwell is a junior in Wildlife Ecology and Management at Auburn. He is from Smiths Station, Alabama, where his parents and grandmother instilled in him a love for the living world. Upon completing his degree, Treadwell plans to become involved in wildlife advocacy and lessening the effects humans impose on the natural world. He is also earning a minor in sustainability and plans to use this knowledge to be more mindful of his career’s environmental impacts. Treadwell is on his way to becoming the first person in his family to graduate, and this goal has pushed him to work hard and make the sky the limit. Through his involvement in the FEWL Academy, Treadwell hopes to solidify his role as a leader in daily life and academically and continue learning how to be a better leader throughout his career. 

Carlie Wilson

Carlie Wilson is a sophomore studying Sustainable Biomaterials and Packaging at Auburn. Wilson is from Kennesaw, Georgia, and loves art, traveling, sustainable living, and animals. Wilson plans on attending law school after earning her bachelor’s degree. She has been involved in various campus activities and is excited to further add to her skill set through the academy. She joined the FEWL Academy to gain leadership skills and network with industry professionals and legislators. Wilson hopes this opportunity will allow her to learn more about the industry and aid in creating new environmental legislation in her future career.
