Auburn University will host a virtual Dean’s Forum and Alumni Social with Dr. Janaki Alavalapati on Thursday, February 17, as part of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences’ 75th Anniversary Celebration.
Dr. Janaki Alavalapati was appointed dean of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences in 2015. Prior to that, he spent eight years as professor and head of the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation in the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech and several years on the faculty of the School of Forest Resources and Conservation at the University of Florida. Since his appointment as dean, Dr. Alavalapati has established several new undergraduate degrees and professional graduate programs, created the student Forests, Environment, and Wildlife Leadership Academy, increased student enrollment and diversity of the school’s faculty by 30%, and increased the school’s research funding by over 80%.
Dr. Glenn Glover, alumnus and emeritus professor, will serve as moderator of the question-and-answer forum with Dr. Alavalapati. After the forum, alumni will have the opportunity to socialize and reminisce about their time at Auburn within one of 4 virtual breakout rooms, grouped into 20 year graduation/enrollment periods: 1947 – 1967, 1968 – 1988, 1989 – 2009, and 2010 – present.
