Fall Ice Breaker Cookout
SFWS faculty, staff and students are invited to attend this fun event held each year for students to get to know each other and their professors; while enjoying a barbecue and lawn games at the outdoor Mary Olive Thomas Demonstration Forest pavilion. Aubie often joins the festivities as well! Transportation is provided for students.
Fall Family Weekend
The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences hosts the Fall Family Weekend Open House the Friday before Homecoming each year. The open house provides the opportunity for our students and parents to meet the faculty and staff and learn more about SFWS programs, clubs and organizations, field experiences and school activities. Tours of the school are offered and light refreshments are served.
New Student Pizza Party
Each fall the Undergraduate Student Services Office hosts a pizza party for new and incoming transfer students where they will have the chance to socialize with other students and learn about the activities of the forestry, wildlife and natural resources-based clubs, as well as the Student Government Association, Student Ambassadors and the MANRRS organization. Students enjoy free pizza, drinks and treats during this fun event to kick off the first week at Auburn!
Student Awards Banquet
Each spring the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences hosts a ceremony and dinner to recognize the outstanding achievements of students, faculty and alumni who, through the generosity of our alumni and friends, are selected to receive merit and financial awards. Parents of student recipients are also invited to attend.
Scholarship & Fellowship Ceremony
The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences awards more than 80 scholarships and fellowships, totaling over $270,000, to students pursuing degrees in forestry, wildlife sciences, and natural resources management. Student recipients and their parents are invited to the SFWS Scholarship & Fellowship Ceremony, hosted each fall, to honor the benefactors and students receiving awards.
Kreher Preserve & Nature Center 5K Trail Run
Students are invited to explore the Kreher Preserve & Nature Center’s beautiful forested trails on this carefully measured, well- marked 5K course. Those who prefer are invited to walk the course. Proceeds benefit the nature center’s operations and environmental education programs. Registration fees vary and include t-shirt, snacks and door prizes.
Dixon Legend 5k, 10k and Half-Marathon Trail Run
The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences hosts the Dixon Legend 5K, 10K, and half-marathon race each year at the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center located in Andalusia, AL. Home to the SFWS summer practicum experience, the trail run provides a unique “off-road” opportunity for students to further explore the diverse forests of the Dixon Center’s 5,000+ acres.
Located adjacent to the Conecuh River and National Forest, this race offers a challenge for all fitness levels as runners traverse the property’s network of dirt roads and trails through upland hardwood forests, across stream bottoms, and through the rolling hills of the Center’s Longleaf Pine ecosystems. Registration fees vary and include a t-shirt and snacks. All race proceeds benefit the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center.
Annual Career Fair
The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences hosts the annual career fair to facilitate student and employer networking. During the Career Fair, undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to learn about internships and job opportunities, meet potential employers, and discover the various careers and types of organizations that support forestry, wildlife sciences, and natural resources. The career fair event benefits all students regardless of their anticipated graduation. Students have the opportunity to:
- Meet potential employers and learn about their organizations
- Explore careers in wildlife ecology and management, forestry, and natural resources
- Apply for jobs and internships
- Discover what will make them most competitive in the job market

SFWS Graduation Ceremony and Reception
The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences hosts a graduation ceremony and reception to honor graduating students prior to each Auburn University commencement ceremony. Parents are invited to attend the ceremony where the students are recognized and given a commemorative SFWS lapel pin.
